Exploring the New PACE Turf with Maggie Reiter

00:00:02 [Speaker 1]
Hello, everyone.
00:00:04 [Speaker 1]
We're live now with office hours with Micah Woods and also with Maggie Ryder today.
00:00:10 [Speaker 1]
Welcome to the show, Maggie.

00:00:12 [Speaker 2]
Hi.
00:00:13 [Speaker 2]
Thanks.
00:00:13 [Speaker 2]
I think this is the first office hours of the year.

00:00:16 [Speaker 1]
This is the first office hours in ten months.
00:00:19 [Speaker 1]
I think the last one was a o m two four six annual review with Chris Tridibaugh, at the end of twenty twenty five.
00:00:27 [Speaker 1]
And Yeah.
00:00:27 [Speaker 1]
You've been on the double cut before, but this is your first time on the livestream office hour.
00:00:34 [Speaker 1]
So welcome.

00:00:36 [Speaker 2]
Thank you.
00:00:36 [Speaker 2]
Very exciting.

00:00:37 [Speaker 1]
This one is exciting because we have a chance to interact answering questions from the live audience if there are, questions from the live audience.
00:00:46 [Speaker 1]
So if you have those, please drop it into the chat from whatever platform you are viewing this on, and we will see those appear eventually, and we will try to answer relevant questions.
00:00:59 [Speaker 1]
We want to talk today about PACE turf, which we were so happy to relaunch in the middle of August, and it's just been a great pleasure working on this with you.
00:01:12 [Speaker 1]
So I wanted to introduce you, talk about what PACE Turf is, and why we're having so much fun with it and some of the new features that we've added.

00:01:21 [Speaker 2]
K.
00:01:22 [Speaker 2]
Let's go.

00:01:23 [Speaker 1]
So, PACE Turf is a information resource for the turf industry, providing science based solutions to turf management challenges.
00:01:34 [Speaker 1]
And, it is a site...
00:01:37 [Speaker 1]
It...
00:01:37 [Speaker 1]
It's a membership based site.
00:01:39 [Speaker 1]
To get all of the features, you have a paid membership.

00:01:43 [Speaker 1]
However, there's also free content on the site, and people are familiar with PACE turf generally for things such as the turf grass growth potential.
00:01:56 [Speaker 1]
I've logged in to my account right now.
00:01:58 [Speaker 1]
I'm showing that on the screen.
00:02:02 [Speaker 1]
And if I look at that and bring up my weather page, it will show...
00:02:09 [Speaker 1]
I've sent my weather page for Portland, Oregon and, well, Milwaukee, Oregon, the the lovely Waverly Country Club where I did my, first golf course maintenance work.

00:02:23 [Speaker 1]
And I can look now at the growth potential there, some of the weather parameters, and, the cool season growth potential.
00:02:32 [Speaker 1]
It looks like it's pretty good growing weather for cool season grass going through the end of September.
00:02:38 [Speaker 1]
The cool season growth potential for the next ten days is in the green zone for nine out of the next ten days, and warm season growth potential is very low.
00:02:48 [Speaker 1]
It's far from optimum.
00:02:50 [Speaker 1]
That is down in single digits on nine out of the next ten days.

00:02:55 [Speaker 1]
So those are the type of things that we, people will be familiar with PACEURF for the growth potential.
00:03:02 [Speaker 1]
And, also, PACEURF, developed the MLS and nutrient guidelines, and PACEURF did, yeah, just just has been providing information, doing research for so many years.
00:03:18 [Speaker 1]
And so this is something that's on the website, and I acquired PACE turf from the founders, doctors Larry Stoll and Wendy Galerter in 2022.
00:03:29 [Speaker 1]
That was four years ago.
00:03:31 [Speaker 1]
And how many pages, Maggie, were on the site, or how many pages are on the site now approximately?

00:03:38 [Speaker 2]
I'm pretty sure it's nearly 5,000.
00:03:40 [Speaker 2]
That that includes the articles, so written content and articles as well as the images that are in the gallery.
00:03:47 [Speaker 2]
I think it was about 5,000.

00:03:49 [Speaker 1]
So, so I I acquired this valuable information resource with information that people throughout the industry make use of.
00:04:01 [Speaker 1]
And some of that con...
00:04:02 [Speaker 1]
Some of those pages are for members.
00:04:04 [Speaker 1]
Some of those pages are freely available content.
00:04:09 [Speaker 1]
And it was on a platform that was built.

00:04:14 [Speaker 1]
The the site was designed in 2009, and so I acquired it in 2022.
00:04:21 [Speaker 1]
Back in 2009, mobile devices were not used as frequently, so the site wasn't mobile friendly, which was a...
00:04:28 [Speaker 1]
Bad first impression.
00:04:30 [Speaker 1]
Let's just put it that way.
00:04:31 [Speaker 1]
So...

00:04:31 [Speaker 1]
And the information that I would write on Pasteur if it wasn't so easy to share.
00:04:36 [Speaker 1]
So I was just kind of waiting around waiting around to figure out how can I update this and to update a website these days and put it on a modern platform?
00:04:49 [Speaker 1]
I was looking at it as like, okay.
00:04:51 [Speaker 1]
This is gonna be a $50,000 plus, type of investment to do this.
00:04:59 [Speaker 1]
And I was like, man, that's a lot of money.

00:05:02 [Speaker 1]
And then you and I were talking, and you said, Micah, I can do this.
00:05:06 [Speaker 1]
And I was like, do you understand?
00:05:09 [Speaker 1]
Oh, I quickly...
00:05:10 [Speaker 1]
You quickly showed me that you could do it.
00:05:12 [Speaker 1]
But at first, I was like, does she understand how complicated this would be?

00:05:16 [Speaker 1]
And I was talking with Frank Rossi last night, and, he mentioned that he'd looked up something about, electromagnetic sensing for soil moisture content of horse racing tracks.
00:05:29 [Speaker 1]
And and I was like, yeah.
00:05:31 [Speaker 1]
There's so much valuable information on there.
00:05:32 [Speaker 1]
And I'm like, we...
00:05:33 [Speaker 1]
When we did this update, Maggie was able to figure out how to bring all this content over without losing it, without breaking it.

00:05:43 [Speaker 1]
So, I think that's a pretty cool feature of the site.

00:05:47 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:05:47 [Speaker 2]
I I think that I would consider that almost one of the main, pieces of focus.
00:05:53 [Speaker 2]
You know?
00:05:53 [Speaker 2]
And I think of all the time that we spent migrating different parts of the website from the authentication to the, you know, the login flows, the weather analytics, and the pages like we're looking at here.

00:06:06 [Speaker 1]
Mhmm.

00:06:07 [Speaker 2]
The content migration was the most time consuming and difficult, but it is...
00:06:11 [Speaker 2]
It, you know, it it was worth the effort.
00:06:14 [Speaker 2]
And I think that's, you know, that's why I was very excited about working with you on PACE turf is because the the content as an asset is incredible.
00:06:23 [Speaker 2]
Like, there's not...
00:06:24 [Speaker 2]
There is nothing else like this in the whole wide world.

00:06:27 [Speaker 2]
This sort of, like, the...
00:06:28 [Speaker 2]
Like, database of information, that's extremely high quality over decades of time.

00:06:35 [Speaker 1]
And the...
00:06:37 [Speaker 1]
I just...
00:06:37 [Speaker 1]
I didn't want to break that and the fact that we have it now at our fingertips with this amazing search.
00:06:43 [Speaker 1]
So the the search we've really...
00:06:46 [Speaker 1]
Even after...

00:06:47 [Speaker 1]
We've made a couple substantial updates to the search even after we already launched it.
00:06:53 [Speaker 1]
So we're using, a database driven search that, well, if we just go to the search page, I'll show you.
00:07:03 [Speaker 1]
It should

00:07:03 [Speaker 2]
One one more thing.
00:07:05 [Speaker 2]
Well, one more thing while we're on the way there too.
00:07:07 [Speaker 2]
We've also simplified the way the content is organized, which has...
00:07:10 [Speaker 2]
Which is a foundation for having good search here too.
00:07:12 [Speaker 2]
So if if you if you came to our new website, you'll see that there's much fewer tabs, like, in the header navigation there.

00:07:19 [Speaker 2]
There are six of them.
00:07:20 [Speaker 2]
There used to be, like, 10 or or 12.
00:07:23 [Speaker 2]
There were so many different, like, content collections, and we really simplified that.
00:07:27 [Speaker 2]
So that would...
00:07:28 [Speaker 2]
You know, we talked a lot about how...

00:07:30 [Speaker 2]
The strategy around that, and I think that sets a foundation too for having this high quality search.
00:07:36 [Speaker 2]
So...
00:07:36 [Speaker 2]
Sorry.
00:07:37 [Speaker 2]
Go go ahead.
00:07:38 [Speaker 2]
Let's look at the search.

00:07:39 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:07:39 [Speaker 1]
That's right.
00:07:40 [Speaker 1]
And I didn't...
00:07:41 [Speaker 1]
I don't have a screenshot of the old site handy, but, there were things like highlights.
00:07:47 [Speaker 1]
There used to be monthly highlights.

00:07:49 [Speaker 1]
So the old paysturf service used to send out monthly highlights, but that stopped in 2010 or 2011.
00:07:57 [Speaker 1]
But there was still a highlights tab, and you could go through that and see all of the old highlights, but they weren't being updated.
00:08:05 [Speaker 1]
There weren't new ones being added.
00:08:07 [Speaker 1]
And it could just be a little bit hard to navigate, as you say, to find what you might be looking at.
00:08:14 [Speaker 1]
And so the new search, if if we show that on the screen, Let me...

00:08:24 [Speaker 1]
I'll make my screen a little bit bigger.

00:08:29 [Speaker 2]
So here's a search landing page, and we just...
00:08:32 [Speaker 2]
This is a new development.
00:08:33 [Speaker 2]
We just put the popular searches on here a couple weeks ago.
00:08:37 [Speaker 2]
So these are the top queries from our users searching on our site over the last thirty days.
00:08:43 [Speaker 2]
And MLSN is number one.

00:08:46 [Speaker 2]
It's 14 years old, and it's always our number one search query, which I think is pretty pretty interesting.
00:08:53 [Speaker 2]
It is that...
00:08:54 [Speaker 2]
It is the same on our Google search, index as well.
00:08:58 [Speaker 2]
MLSN is, like, our number one keyword.

00:09:01 [Speaker 1]
So we we want to make sure that we're providing lots of information about MLSN.
00:09:07 [Speaker 1]
We can use that type of information as a signal of, like, okay.
00:09:11 [Speaker 1]
Let's make sure that we do a good job of explaining MLS and, updating MLS and making sure that people can make use of it.
00:09:19 [Speaker 1]
I think that if I type in, like, let's say...
00:09:28 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:09:28 [Speaker 1]
So so with the...
00:09:29 [Speaker 1]
If I type in the letter a, it brings up 3,962 results, and then I add a l and already...
00:09:39 [Speaker 1]
So let's say that I'm searching for algae.
00:09:42 [Speaker 1]
It's already brought up the first search result is, video about cyanobacteria, also known as algae, on Tyee Bank Grass.
00:09:51 [Speaker 1]
And the third, return is a reference on algae.

00:09:56 [Speaker 1]
And if I type a g...
00:09:57 [Speaker 1]
So I just type three letters, a l g, and now it's got 81 results, And the first three are all about algae.
00:10:07 [Speaker 1]
If we go down, we've got 20 images about algae.
00:10:10 [Speaker 1]
There's just, you quickly...
00:10:14 [Speaker 1]
You can instantly...

00:10:16 [Speaker 1]
Almost instantly, you're getting relevant information that you can choose from.
00:10:21 [Speaker 1]
So I've always thought that one of the valuable things about PACE turf is our ability to, like a reference library that you just know is always there.
00:10:37 [Speaker 1]
You don't always have an algae problem.
00:10:39 [Speaker 1]
But when you when you do...
00:10:42 [Speaker 1]
When you are suddenly confronted with an algae problem that you may not have dealt with for two years or six months, and you wanna make sure that you're...

00:10:50 [Speaker 1]
That you haven't missed anything and that you're considering the right management strategies, then you can quickly get that information.
00:10:59 [Speaker 1]
And PACE turf has that in, many different categories.

00:11:04 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:11:04 [Speaker 2]
I think, the search is one of...
00:11:09 [Speaker 2]
I think maybe the the top thing on the website to me that feels like magic.
00:11:13 [Speaker 2]
Like, it feels...
00:11:14 [Speaker 2]
It's so...

00:11:15 [Speaker 2]
It's wicked fast, gives you really relevant results.
00:11:19 [Speaker 2]
We're using a search algorithm that, is very good at this, and we also have handcrafted the way that the data is indexed.
00:11:27 [Speaker 2]
So, you know, like, the...
00:11:29 [Speaker 2]
Using the tags and and things like that.
00:11:32 [Speaker 2]
That, I think, that effort we put into handcrafting some of the metadata on each piece of content also helps the user get more relevant results.

00:11:42 [Speaker 2]
So, yeah, I'm excited about search.
00:11:43 [Speaker 2]
I like to look at the top queries and and what people are searching for.
00:11:47 [Speaker 2]
It's fun to look at.

00:11:49 [Speaker 1]
And I've been glad to see because I also have search, on the ATC website.
00:11:55 [Speaker 1]
And so I can look at the at the searches on the ATC site and the searches on the PayServ site, and already the the the number of searches on PayServ is vastly exceeding the searches on ATC.
00:12:13 [Speaker 1]
So, although the web traffic is pretty similar, in terms of how many people visit the ATC site and how many people visit the Paysurf site, people are utilizing the search on Paysurf a lot more, which I think is is terrific.
00:12:31 [Speaker 1]
And Yeah.
00:12:32 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:12:33 [Speaker 1]
It it is kind of like magic.
00:12:35 [Speaker 1]
We've also added for every single reference on the site and for every single update, we've now added a related post.

00:12:48 [Speaker 2]
Oh, yeah.
00:12:48 [Speaker 2]
See also.
00:12:49 [Speaker 2]
It's called see also.

00:12:51 [Speaker 1]
See also.
00:12:51 [Speaker 1]
So maybe, let me

00:12:54 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:12:54 [Speaker 2]
If you wanna pull up an article.
00:12:55 [Speaker 2]
So I'll I'll explain to people.
00:12:57 [Speaker 2]
So at the end of each article, we have we list, you know, rec...
00:13:01 [Speaker 2]
Recommended reads related to that article, and it's using our same underlying, search algorithms.

00:13:07 [Speaker 2]
So it shows you four articles that are, related to the piece of content you're looking at, and we could just call it see also.
00:13:14 [Speaker 2]
So, you know, this is a this is a common thing that you will see in, on websites.
00:13:20 [Speaker 2]
But, again, it's just...
00:13:21 [Speaker 2]
It's helping our users to be able to find relevant content or or what they're interested in faster.

00:13:26 [Speaker 1]
I picked I picked a long one, cloud effect on photosynthetically active radiation.
00:13:30 [Speaker 1]
It has some nice pictures in it.
00:13:33 [Speaker 1]
That's a update from September 20.
00:13:35 [Speaker 1]
I, I shared a series of photos that I'd taken at Pebble Beach during the two thousand eighteen US Amateur Championship, with being able to see one shadow or not being able to see one shadow and talking about what the amount of photosynthetically active radiation would be.
00:13:56 [Speaker 1]
And then...

00:13:57 [Speaker 1]
So at the at the bottom of this, it's turned up related content.
00:14:03 [Speaker 1]
And is is this choosing the most...
00:14:06 [Speaker 1]
The top related content?
00:14:09 [Speaker 1]
Or

00:14:09 [Speaker 2]
Yes.
00:14:10 [Speaker 2]
It's relevant to this article.
00:14:11 [Speaker 2]
So it's like using, similarity matching to this article that we're looking at.

00:14:17 [Speaker 1]
So to this specific article.
00:14:19 [Speaker 1]
So there would be more than four items, but it's bringing up the top four, the most similar.

00:14:26 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:14:27 [Speaker 2]
That's right.

00:14:28 [Speaker 1]
So it looks like these are called photosynthetic, photon flux density and daily light integral exclamation mark.
00:14:37 [Speaker 1]
A chart of the week about photosynthetically active radiation, how much light does turf really need, and daily light integral DLI.
00:14:45 [Speaker 1]
So you can...
00:14:47 [Speaker 1]
If...
00:14:48 [Speaker 1]
I know not every...

00:14:49 [Speaker 1]
But some people are coming to paysturf to get quick answers, and this can maybe help you find the quick answer if you're like, okay.
00:14:56 [Speaker 1]
I wanna check one more item about this topic.
00:14:59 [Speaker 1]
But I was gonna say if you wanna do a deep dive on a topic, the the paid surf site is set up in a way now where you can do that because you can get started on something and you can just keep going.
00:15:10 [Speaker 1]
So if you wanted to read about daily light integral, you can just keep on going.
00:15:16 [Speaker 1]
You didn't read this one and the next one and the next one and so on because we get this related content showing up.

00:15:27 [Speaker 2]
Great.
00:15:28 [Speaker 2]
And the search...
00:15:29 [Speaker 2]
The same search, is available in the gallery as well.
00:15:33 [Speaker 2]
So if you go to the gallery and you just wanna look at images, if you you can search for things there, and it's using the same search only over the gallery images.

00:15:44 [Speaker 1]
So if, what should I search for?
00:15:48 [Speaker 1]
Should we search for, how about growth?
00:15:52 [Speaker 1]
Algae.

00:15:53 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:15:53 [Speaker 2]
Do that again.
00:15:54 [Speaker 2]
K.
00:15:54 [Speaker 2]
Click.
00:15:54 [Speaker 2]
We have a a story with algae now.

00:15:57 [Speaker 2]
Okay.

00:15:58 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:15:58 [Speaker 1]
So we've have a l...
00:16:00 [Speaker 1]
So we've got charts, and we have, images showing up.
00:16:04 [Speaker 1]
And right...
00:16:05 [Speaker 1]
So if I type a l, it's showing 225 images showing up.

00:16:10 [Speaker 1]
And then if I type a g, it's narrows it down to 20 images, and now we start seeing algae.
00:16:16 [Speaker 1]
Some of these are under a microscope.
00:16:19 [Speaker 1]
Some of these are not under a microscope.
00:16:24 [Speaker 1]
And by the time we have ALGA, we're narrowed down to 48 images.
00:16:29 [Speaker 1]
I'll show...

00:16:30 [Speaker 1]
I'll bring up the one that I really like, the photo from John Kaminski, where the caption of that says photo by John Kaminski, Penn State University.
00:16:40 [Speaker 1]
The title of that is algae and pee, and what it's showing is an...
00:16:45 [Speaker 1]
A plot of ammonium sulfate that doesn't have...
00:16:48 [Speaker 1]
Or a plot that...
00:16:49 [Speaker 1]
Of bank grass that was treated with ammonium sulfate, and there's no algae on it.

00:16:55 [Speaker 1]
And there's a plot that was treated with twenty twenty twenty fertilizer, and it is covered with algae.
00:17:04 [Speaker 1]
And the caption reads, photo by John Kaminski, Penn State University, fertilizers containing phosphate were found to stimulate algae.
00:17:14 [Speaker 1]
Phosphite, on the other hand, reduces algae, minimize the amount of phosphate used in fertilizers, and maintain soil Mehlich three phosphorus near 21 parts per million, which is the MLSN minimum value for phosphorus at the present time.
00:17:29 [Speaker 1]
Do that to help prevent algae blooms.
00:17:33 [Speaker 1]
And if we click on that image, we can, bring it to full screen and and take an even closer look at it.

00:17:40 [Speaker 1]
So we've we've really spent, well, Maggie Maggie spent a lot of time implementing this in a way that it's fast, that the search works really well, and we can just make it so easy for you to find that information.
00:17:57 [Speaker 1]
And I think, you know, the gallery is is a free resource that's available to everybody in the industry.
00:18:07 [Speaker 1]
And, Maggie, your your job title or or your your role with FaceTirf is CTO.
00:18:16 [Speaker 1]
Can you describe what CTO,

00:18:19 [Speaker 2]
is It stands for, chief technology officer.
00:18:23 [Speaker 2]
So it...
00:18:24 [Speaker 2]
To me, it means that I lead the the tech platform, for PACE turf here, which is everything on the website.
00:18:33 [Speaker 2]
Any of our data products, we do a lot of email products.

00:18:38 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:18:39 [Speaker 1]
We haven't talked about the emails.
00:18:40 [Speaker 1]
If you want to, read more about PACE turf, of course, the the, about page at the bottom of the of the home page is a good...
00:18:50 [Speaker 1]
Well, bottom of every page, isn't it?
00:18:54 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:18:54 [Speaker 1]
So if you go down and look at the footer, you can see the about page.
00:18:59 [Speaker 1]
So it's got information about doctor Larry Stowell, doctor Wendy Galerter, about Maggie.
00:19:05 [Speaker 1]
It's got information about me, and it also, yeah, it says what we do.

00:19:16 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:19:17 [Speaker 2]
This is a nice page.
00:19:21 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:19:21 [Speaker 2]
We worked hard on designing this.
00:19:23 [Speaker 2]
And I think it does...

00:19:24 [Speaker 2]
It gets a lot of action.
00:19:25 [Speaker 2]
A lot of people click into this.

00:19:27 [Speaker 1]
And, also, if you want our social media account, some people like to follow on social media, so that's also down in the footer.
00:19:35 [Speaker 1]
So we've got a LinkedIn, x, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
00:19:41 [Speaker 1]
So however you would like to keep up with Paysturf.
00:19:45 [Speaker 1]
The main the main way that we, communicate is we post updates, and we send emails to our members.
00:19:58 [Speaker 1]
So, Maggie, could you describe how...

00:20:04 [Speaker 1]
What what emails do people get?

00:20:06 [Speaker 2]
Go...
00:20:07 [Speaker 2]
If you wanna click on the membership tab, we can look at something for that too.
00:20:11 [Speaker 2]
So the PayServ members get, a lot of the deliverables from us in an email.
00:20:18 [Speaker 2]
So we do...
00:20:19 [Speaker 2]
For the written updates, we will send those out to you in an email.

00:20:23 [Speaker 2]
Every Monday, we'll send out the previous week's written updates.
00:20:28 [Speaker 2]
And then the other, major one is the weather reports.
00:20:31 [Speaker 2]
We send those out three times a week.
00:20:33 [Speaker 2]
So the weather reports are those tables that have things like your growth potential and your temperature and your ET, and some of our disease models as well as our nitrogen recommendations, which if you wanna talk more about that, we can.
00:20:47 [Speaker 2]
The weather reports get emailed out three times a week.

00:20:50 [Speaker 2]
So, I mean, for some people, it's as simple as, like, getting growth potential in your inbox, and that is just...
00:20:55 [Speaker 2]
It's just so nice to be able to look at that every morning.
00:20:59 [Speaker 2]
I know that I do.

00:21:01 [Speaker 1]
I...
00:21:01 [Speaker 1]
Do you...
00:21:02 [Speaker 1]
Have you been changing your location, to where you are so that you get a update?
00:21:08 [Speaker 1]
Do you get a update for home, or do you get a update when you travel also?

00:21:13 [Speaker 2]
Well, I have multiple pay surf accounts.
00:21:16 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:21:16 [Speaker 2]
So I...
00:21:16 [Speaker 2]
Yes.
00:21:17 [Speaker 2]
I I maintain multiple locations, and so I get all, you know, emails sent to me with the analysis, for several occasions.

00:21:26 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:21:26 [Speaker 2]
I do change it around.
00:21:27 [Speaker 2]
So right now, I'm in Cambridge or Boston area.
00:21:30 [Speaker 2]
So I have it turned on for, this part of the country, and I'm able to see what's going on around me.
00:21:37 [Speaker 2]
I'm gonna go visit a few golf courses tomorrow.

00:21:39 [Speaker 2]
So I pull it up, and I kinda get a quick read on, you know, what's going on over the last month or so and what's in their forecast.

00:21:46 [Speaker 1]
I've...
00:21:47 [Speaker 1]
I have found it so useful to have the update for where I am.
00:21:55 [Speaker 1]
So I've been traveling a lot recently, and I was in multiple parts of Australia.
00:22:02 [Speaker 1]
When I first noticed this was when I was in Australia, and I was getting an update for Sydney.
00:22:07 [Speaker 1]
And then I'd visit a golf course in Sydney, and I'd know...

00:22:10 [Speaker 1]
So the updates are showing the thirty day weather history and showing the ten day weather forecast for for a particular location.
00:22:19 [Speaker 1]
And it's also showing the standard nitrogen amounts that given the weather and given the grass types, that's the amount of nitrogen we would expect, the grass to use or the amount that we would expect to supply as fertilizer.
00:22:34 [Speaker 1]
And so having that information just emailed to me, I never had to look it up.
00:22:39 [Speaker 1]
It's just an email that I get.
00:22:41 [Speaker 1]
I glance at it.

00:22:41 [Speaker 1]
I say, oh, looks like the growth potential is really low for cool season grass.
00:22:47 [Speaker 1]
We don't expect much growth.
00:22:49 [Speaker 1]
Maybe the green speeds are gonna be fast.
00:22:51 [Speaker 1]
Then Then I go out to the golf course, and when I'm like, how many clippings are you getting?
00:22:54 [Speaker 1]
Oh, hardly anything.

00:22:55 [Speaker 1]
And it and it all matches, and you...
00:22:57 [Speaker 1]
And I can talk to the turf managers in a way where I'm really familiar with their weather.
00:23:03 [Speaker 1]
And then I I was in Melbourne doing the same thing.
00:23:06 [Speaker 1]
I was speaking at a conference in, Yarrawonga, Moala, and I had the weather information there.
00:23:14 [Speaker 1]
And I knew, okay.

00:23:15 [Speaker 1]
It's it's considerably colder here at night at this time of year than it is in Sydney.
00:23:21 [Speaker 1]
And people were talking to me about that, and I knew that because I was getting the weather report.
00:23:25 [Speaker 1]
And we could quickly get on the same level talking be...
00:23:29 [Speaker 1]
Because the weather...
00:23:31 [Speaker 1]
Everybody knows that the weather plays such a huge impact on on what type of turf conditions one's gonna have.

00:23:37 [Speaker 1]
And then subsequently, I went to Japan and was doing that.
00:23:39 [Speaker 1]
I went to Sri Lanka and was getting that, and I just instantly was updated about what the growing conditions were.
00:23:47 [Speaker 1]
So I I just find that really useful.

00:23:50 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:23:50 [Speaker 2]
I would say...
00:23:51 [Speaker 2]
So most of our pay...
00:23:53 [Speaker 2]
PACERF members are golf course superintendents, and they're at one location.
00:23:57 [Speaker 2]
But I'm I'm actually surprised about how big of a population of members we have that are like us consultants or advisors or agronomists that move around a lot.

00:24:06 [Speaker 2]
And I imagine that they get a lot of...
00:24:09 [Speaker 2]
With the new website too, I should say, you're able to change your location.
00:24:12 [Speaker 2]
I mean, you can change it as much as you want, and your weather page will instantly refresh, and your emails will instantly refresh.
00:24:19 [Speaker 2]
So that's one kind kind of new feature that is very easy to change your location, in your account management.

00:24:26 [Speaker 1]
Well, let me, let me...
00:24:32 [Speaker 1]
Why don't I show how I can change my weather location?
00:24:40 [Speaker 1]
Let me see.
00:24:41 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna show the chat.
00:24:42 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna I'm gonna add the chat to this stream.

00:24:45 [Speaker 1]
So if anybody wants to, to comment or ask questions, please, that doesn't work so good on that screen.
00:25:00 [Speaker 1]
I I won't show it on that particular screen.
00:25:02 [Speaker 1]
Anyway, if if you got questions or comments, leave them, and we will

00:25:07 [Speaker 2]
We'll read them.
00:25:07 [Speaker 2]
We'll

00:25:08 [Speaker 1]
read them.

00:25:08 [Speaker 2]
Save them.
00:25:09 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:25:10 [Speaker 1]
So if if I go from the membership page and I go up here...
00:25:16 [Speaker 1]
So at the top right corner of the screen where you see a growth potential, annual curve, and a welcome message, if you go to that, that shows the admin page.
00:25:28 [Speaker 1]
And there's a few things there.
00:25:29 [Speaker 1]
There's a profile.
00:25:30 [Speaker 1]
There's a team, which we'll talk about.

00:25:32 [Speaker 1]
That's another really nice new feature that's easy.
00:25:35 [Speaker 1]
So I've got this set for Waverly Country Club, and let me...
00:25:40 [Speaker 1]
Let's change it to, Cape Town.
00:25:47 [Speaker 1]
So we'll go to South Africa, and notice the, at the top right of the screen right now, I have a growth potential curve that is, cool season grass is peaking in the middle of the year.
00:25:59 [Speaker 1]
And this...

00:26:00 [Speaker 1]
If we change it to Cape Town...
00:26:03 [Speaker 1]
So I'm gonna go ahead and save.
00:26:06 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna change it to metric also, and I'm gonna click save changes.
00:26:11 [Speaker 1]
If we see the...
00:26:13 [Speaker 1]
Probably that growth potential curve is gonna change pretty soon because it's checking for our location.

00:26:19 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:26:19 [Speaker 1]
So so now the growth potential curve has just changed.
00:26:22 [Speaker 1]
We've gone from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere, and now it's January, February, March, November, December when we'll get peak growth potential at that location for cool season grass.
00:26:34 [Speaker 1]
And if we go to the weather page now, we're gonna see something that is, my weather is now set for, thirty three point nine degrees south and, eighteen degrees east, and we now are set for Cape Town, South Africa.
00:26:56 [Speaker 1]
Our forecasted disease threats based on those temperatures, we've got, seven different diseases.

00:27:03 [Speaker 1]
If we click through on those, like for rust, if we click through on that, it's gonna take us to a reference on rust so we can get information.
00:27:14 [Speaker 1]
We can we can click through for photos of rust.
00:27:20 [Speaker 1]
There's 86 images.
00:27:21 [Speaker 1]
So, again, there's just like...
00:27:25 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:27:25 [Speaker 1]
It's it's a pretty cool site to find information.
00:27:35 [Speaker 1]
And we've...
00:27:36 [Speaker 1]
We're also getting a standard nitrogen value.
00:27:40 [Speaker 1]
So I'm set, for general cool season and general warm season.
00:27:45 [Speaker 1]
Let me go ahead and change this so that we show it for specific species.

00:27:50 [Speaker 1]
So I'd like to show how that works.
00:27:53 [Speaker 1]
So we've set this up.
00:27:54 [Speaker 1]
So if if we don't, state what our species is, what our species are that we're growing or that we're interested in, then we just get general cool season or general warm season nitrogen values.
00:28:12 [Speaker 1]
But if I go...
00:28:16 [Speaker 1]
I've got myself set as a organization type other.

00:28:21 [Speaker 1]
Let me change myself to a golf course, and I'll say now that my greens are creeping bank grass, and let's say that my fairways are Bermuda grass, and let's say that my teas are a cool season mix, and let's say that my rough is, is also bermudagrass.
00:28:47 [Speaker 1]
So if I save those changes and go back to my weather page, it's now going to be showing me standard nitrogen amounts for the species that I selected.
00:29:00 [Speaker 1]
And this is showing in metric.
00:29:02 [Speaker 1]
It's showing in grams per...
00:29:04 [Speaker 1]
Grams of nitrogen per square meter for the upcoming week, and we're calculating this based on the forecast temperatures for the week.

00:29:13 [Speaker 1]
So the conditions that the grass is going to be growing in, this is what's standard for good performing turf in 2026.
00:29:24 [Speaker 1]
If I click then on Fahrenheit and switch it, say, you know what?
00:29:30 [Speaker 1]
Even though I'm in Cape Town, I wanna look at this in Fahrenheit.
00:29:34 [Speaker 1]
The standard nitrogen has now changed to pounds, of N per thousand square feet.
00:29:39 [Speaker 1]
So, this is this is pretty cool how this, works in units for people anywhere in the world.

00:29:53 [Speaker 2]
And you can set your unit preferences.
00:29:55 [Speaker 2]
Everybody gets to set what unit they prefer.
00:29:59 [Speaker 2]
Also on the old side is it was side by side different units, wasn't it, on the weather report?

00:30:06 [Speaker 1]
It was it was side by side

00:30:08 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:30:08 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:30:09 [Speaker 1]
I would say that's that's probably my number one thing, about...
00:30:17 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:30:18 [Speaker 1]
That was one of my number one things that I wanted to accomplish was, hide the metric from people who don't want to see metric and hide the Fahrenheit from people who don't want to see Fahrenheit.
00:30:31 [Speaker 1]
Right.

00:30:31 [Speaker 1]
I found it a bit cluttered and confusing to see everything together.
00:30:36 [Speaker 1]
And, like, you either want one or the other.
00:30:41 [Speaker 1]
You don't want both at the same time.

00:30:44 [Speaker 2]
So we can...
00:30:44 [Speaker 2]
We have that as a setting for everybody to get their default units and whatever they prefer.
00:30:48 [Speaker 2]
But it is...
00:30:49 [Speaker 2]
Like, Michael was just showing, it is a toggle on the weather page.
00:30:52 [Speaker 2]
You could quickly flip between them, if you do wanna see the opposite.

00:30:56 [Speaker 1]
And then you can opt in to the...
00:30:58 [Speaker 1]
Or opt out of the newsletter updates or the weather alerts.
00:31:02 [Speaker 1]
Almost nobody opts out because of the...
00:31:05 [Speaker 1]
Basically, I think most of our users are just getting the information by email.
00:31:12 [Speaker 1]
They Right.

00:31:12 [Speaker 1]
That way, they don't have to go to the site.
00:31:15 [Speaker 1]
But...
00:31:15 [Speaker 1]
So the site is there for you if you if you need to...
00:31:18 [Speaker 1]
You're like, oh, my...
00:31:19 [Speaker 1]
I just walked through the turf, and my shoes are are orange.

00:31:23 [Speaker 1]
I think I've got a rust issue going on.
00:31:26 [Speaker 1]
Let me let me check what are the management, or check and make sure that I'm IDing this correctly so you can find images, then you can find, reference guides for that.
00:31:37 [Speaker 1]
But what...
00:31:39 [Speaker 1]
So, today, we're recording this on a Wednesday night in The US, Thursday morning in, in Asia and Australia.
00:31:49 [Speaker 1]
And we've got updates this week so far.

00:31:56 [Speaker 1]
Our sand top dressing reduced sheer strength by 37% and green firmness without top dressing.
00:32:02 [Speaker 1]
So those have been published since last Monday.
00:32:05 [Speaker 1]
So next Monday when the when the weekly update email comes out, these items will be included, the...
00:32:14 [Speaker 1]
These two new ones.
00:32:15 [Speaker 1]
And anything else that's posted in the update stream between now and the time that that newsletter goes out, the full content of these will be, the full content of these will be shared.

00:32:30 [Speaker 1]
And I really like the display of that.
00:32:33 [Speaker 1]
Those show up nice in emails, and all of the images are included.
00:32:38 [Speaker 1]
We, on the old site, for for members who have been Paystirf members for a long time, you'll remember that the previous update emails had smaller images, and the images...
00:32:53 [Speaker 1]
There were there were fewer images shared.
00:32:56 [Speaker 1]
And part of that was because the file size was larger with the way that we were working with images.

00:33:03 [Speaker 1]
And so if we'd include a lot of images in the email, you had to download the full size image for it to display, and that was just really slow when we had a lot of images in the emails.
00:33:16 [Speaker 1]
And also because the images didn't resize properly on screens, it just didn't...
00:33:23 [Speaker 1]
It didn't look very good to put a lot of images into into posts.
00:33:27 [Speaker 1]
But now we don't have that problem, so I've been throwing all the images that I want to in there.
00:33:33 [Speaker 1]
So this update that I wrote about sand top dressing reducing shear strength by 37%, which I encourage people to read because that may be a surprising result.

00:33:43 [Speaker 1]
And, also, depending on how you want to think about percentage change, this could be a 58% reduction in in shear strength.
00:33:55 [Speaker 1]
So, I talked about that in a footnote.
00:33:58 [Speaker 1]
We can now add footnotes so you can...
00:34:02 [Speaker 1]
I sometimes like to provide extra details, so I added a footnote to this post.
00:34:06 [Speaker 1]
You can know if I put something in a footnote, it's probably not something that you need to feel obligated that you really need to understand.

00:34:13 [Speaker 1]
But, percentage change, I've always found this a little bit mind twisting, where, the way that this was reported in the article was a 37% reduction, but we could also consider it to be a 58%, change.
00:34:29 [Speaker 1]
And, I I talked about that a little bit.
00:34:32 [Speaker 1]
So, anyway, that is coming.
00:34:37 [Speaker 1]
So most people aren't going and checking the website every day.
00:34:40 [Speaker 1]
I I think Maggie and I probably check the website almost every day, or maybe multiple times per day because we're working on this.

00:34:48 [Speaker 1]
But if you're a member, you don't even have to go to the website, and you know that this, update is coming in your inbox on next next Monday.
00:35:00 [Speaker 1]
And the weather alerts, you don't have to go.
00:35:02 [Speaker 1]
You're getting that entire weather page, that entire, history of, growth potential and temperature and ET and also the forecast for that.
00:35:13 [Speaker 1]
You're getting that in your email in the easy easy to view, format every Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
00:35:23 [Speaker 1]
And, you know, something else we did with the, with the weather alerts, we...

00:35:29 [Speaker 1]
They used to go the same time all over the world.
00:35:33 [Speaker 1]
And we've now adjusted it.
00:35:36 [Speaker 1]
So whatever time zone your location is set, you're getting the email at...
00:35:42 [Speaker 1]
Is it, 3AM, isn't it?
00:35:46 [Speaker 1]
I think it's 3AM in that

00:35:48 [Speaker 2]
time zone.
00:35:48 [Speaker 2]
Well, I'll say I had it set at 04:00, and then we we wanted to make it even earlier in case people got up really early.
00:35:54 [Speaker 2]
So we set it for 3AM at a at a person's local time.
00:35:58 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:35:58 [Speaker 1]
That's right.
00:35:59 [Speaker 1]
So we we thought about this quite a bit.
00:36:01 [Speaker 1]
And the reason for sending it as as late as possible is we want to get the most recent forecast information.
00:36:09 [Speaker 1]
We want to get the most...
00:36:11 [Speaker 1]
The the forecast information from the weather provider that is the most recent.

00:36:18 [Speaker 1]
And so in that case, we we don't wanna send you something at 10PM when you're actually gonna be looking at it when you come into work in the mornings.
00:36:29 [Speaker 1]
But then I thought, well, for tournaments, people are often starting before 4AM.
00:36:33 [Speaker 1]
If you happen to be named Eric Johnson and going to work at Chambers Bay at 2AM or something, this may be a little bit late for you, but you can...
00:36:43 [Speaker 1]
You'll still be in the office when when you know that this email, is coming in.
00:36:47 [Speaker 1]
But I thought I feel comfortable at 3AM because I know, like, if if it's a special event...

00:36:55 [Speaker 1]
It...
00:36:56 [Speaker 1]
Again, it depends where you are in the world, but, I I think for a lot of places, they'll be starting at 04:30 or five in the peak peak season.

00:37:06 [Speaker 2]
Nope.
00:37:07 [Speaker 2]
You you froze for a second there, but

00:37:11 [Speaker 1]
Okay.
00:37:12 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:37:12 [Speaker 1]
This, well, the...
00:37:15 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:37:15 [Speaker 1]
This is fun.

00:37:16 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:37:16 [Speaker 1]
It's fun.
00:37:18 [Speaker 1]
We we are really kind of jumping around with some of these new features, but they're things that as we go through the site, I realize, oh, yeah.
00:37:26 [Speaker 1]
This is different.
00:37:27 [Speaker 1]
Oh, yeah.

00:37:27 [Speaker 1]
This this is different also.

00:37:31 [Speaker 2]
One one...
00:37:31 [Speaker 2]
I wanna say one more thing about the weather reports too.
00:37:34 [Speaker 2]
To, you know, tell us what you wanna see there.
00:37:38 [Speaker 2]
There's a few of our members that have asked, like, you know, can you add this to my weather report?
00:37:42 [Speaker 2]
Can you shape it like this?

00:37:43 [Speaker 2]
And we can...
00:37:44 [Speaker 2]
We've done that.
00:37:44 [Speaker 2]
So we...
00:37:45 [Speaker 2]
I would say we have, like, we have few few custom weather reports out there for some of our select members that have just asked for different, visuals or or different columns of data here.
00:37:55 [Speaker 2]
So if there's anything you you want, just tell us.

00:37:59 [Speaker 2]
You know?
00:38:00 [Speaker 2]
Just talk to us, and and we wanna work with you on that.

00:38:04 [Speaker 1]
And, something that I will also say, and I I told Maggie, I don't want to promise too much.
00:38:10 [Speaker 1]
I don't want to talk about things that don't exist.
00:38:13 [Speaker 1]
But one of the things that we're certainly, planning to do is is update the weather report page, extensively because there...
00:38:25 [Speaker 1]
I have a lot of ideas of things to add to this, but it doesn't all fit on one page.
00:38:31 [Speaker 1]
So I'm thinking about how to improve this in a way to provide even more valuable information for people, but still make it easy to access what you're looking for in the way that, it is right now where it's just all on one page.

00:38:49 [Speaker 1]
So, yeah.
00:38:51 [Speaker 1]
Anyway, that's that's something we're working on, and and we are trying to to improve it.
00:38:58 [Speaker 1]
And with the old site, I just didn't feel that that was possible.
00:39:01 [Speaker 1]
We we had a very stable site.
00:39:03 [Speaker 1]
It worked for years.

00:39:05 [Speaker 1]
It provided good information for years and years and years.
00:39:10 [Speaker 1]
And we could always add updates.
00:39:11 [Speaker 1]
The weather page was all...
00:39:13 [Speaker 1]
Almost always working.
00:39:16 [Speaker 1]
But to make adjustments or improve it, because of the platform, it just wasn't easy to do.

00:39:24 [Speaker 1]
I don't know if we would say it was proprietary software, but it was it was not mainstream software.
00:39:33 [Speaker 1]
The flat...
00:39:34 [Speaker 1]
I don't...
00:39:35 [Speaker 1]
I...
00:39:35 [Speaker 1]
I've diff...

00:39:36 [Speaker 1]
I now moved to the c t...
00:39:37 [Speaker 1]
Can you describe...
00:39:38 [Speaker 1]
What was the problem what was the problem that I was having where I couldn't update anything, and now I feel like working with you?
00:39:48 [Speaker 1]
When when I say, could we do this?
00:39:51 [Speaker 1]
Sometimes you're like, okay, Mike.

00:39:52 [Speaker 1]
I just pushed this live in a development branch.

00:39:55 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:39:57 [Speaker 2]
I I mean...
00:39:58 [Speaker 2]
So the old website was a PHP framework, which there's lots of websites on the Internet today that are PHP, and and still new ones being created.
00:40:06 [Speaker 2]
But it was just the way that it...
00:40:07 [Speaker 2]
The stack was set up was difficult to work with or difficult to make changes to.

00:40:13 [Speaker 2]
And now we have, our front end is on Astro, which I'm an Astro fanatic.
00:40:19 [Speaker 2]
So it makes the content, more dynamic like you were just describing and gives us a lot more options on the content, as well as it's just the...
00:40:30 [Speaker 2]
Kind of the CICD or, you know, the the development and deployment is a a lot more smoother, and we can do...
00:40:37 [Speaker 2]
We can prototype faster.
00:40:39 [Speaker 2]
We can we can add things faster.

00:40:42 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:40:43 [Speaker 2]
It's just...
00:40:43 [Speaker 2]
It's been a pleasure to work on it in the last few months.
00:40:48 [Speaker 2]
And you're...
00:40:48 [Speaker 2]
You got the hang of it too pretty quickly.

00:40:50 [Speaker 2]
I mean, you get in there quite a bit.

00:40:52 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:40:53 [Speaker 1]
I've changed a few things.
00:40:55 [Speaker 1]
Maggie definitely, I mean, this is this is really obvious.
00:41:00 [Speaker 1]
Right?
00:41:00 [Speaker 1]
If I if I knew how to do this, I would have done it a long time ago.

00:41:04 [Speaker 1]
So I did not know how to do this.
00:41:07 [Speaker 1]
I knew it was possible, but I didn't know how to do it.
00:41:11 [Speaker 1]
And Maggie and I talked, and she said, Micah, you could do this.
00:41:14 [Speaker 1]
And I'm like, yeah.
00:41:16 [Speaker 1]
Okay.

00:41:17 [Speaker 1]
May...
00:41:17 [Speaker 1]
I I could, but the way Maggie did it, I could work on other things.
00:41:22 [Speaker 1]
So I kind of work on content and strategy, and Maggie works on content and strategy on the technical side.
00:41:30 [Speaker 1]
Right?

00:41:31 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:41:32 [Speaker 2]
We both do all things.

00:41:33 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:41:35 [Speaker 2]
But if somebody has a login problem, I'll help them with it.

00:41:39 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:41:40 [Speaker 1]
And and I reset my passwords.
00:41:42 [Speaker 1]
I'm I'm using a different browser this morning, than I normally...
00:41:47 [Speaker 1]
So to record this podcast, I'm I'm using a different browser.
00:41:51 [Speaker 1]
And in this browser, I wasn't logged in to Pasteurf, and then I wasn't, like, able to log in because my password...

00:41:59 [Speaker 1]
Maybe I've changed the password and forgot or something.
00:42:02 [Speaker 1]
So on on this particular browser, it didn't have my password saved, so I reset my password.
00:42:07 [Speaker 1]
And it just it just works.
00:42:09 [Speaker 1]
And Yeah.
00:42:10 [Speaker 1]
We got a a email from a member in Portugal earlier this week, and he said he he was struggling to log in on his phone.

00:42:20 [Speaker 1]
And I I reminded him, like, you use your email address as your login, not your old, the old site had usernames.
00:42:27 [Speaker 1]
Now we just use email address.
00:42:29 [Speaker 1]
And, he wrote back.
00:42:31 [Speaker 1]
He's like, okay.
00:42:31 [Speaker 1]
I'm in.

00:42:32 [Speaker 1]
So, it it just works works pretty well.

00:42:37 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:42:39 [Speaker 2]
On that note too, I wanna say, a note about how easy it is to sign up.
00:42:44 [Speaker 2]
So it's very easy to sign up.
00:42:45 [Speaker 2]
It's very easy to get started, on PayCirc.
00:42:48 [Speaker 2]
So if you do...

00:42:49 [Speaker 2]
If you don't have an account with us since August 12, that would have been the launch of the new website.
00:42:54 [Speaker 2]
Go in and and make one, and you will get access to the free resources, of course.
00:43:02 [Speaker 2]
And so all you need to do is you make a...
00:43:04 [Speaker 2]
Your email and password, and then there's one page where we ask for a little bit more information about you and your facility.
00:43:11 [Speaker 2]
So ask where you're located and what your grass types are because that helps us customize the content and the weather reports that we're gonna give you.

00:43:18 [Speaker 1]
Would you like me to......

00:43:19 [Speaker 2]
That, it's just a couple clicks to to check out if you want, but, again, you can just stay on a free account as well.

00:43:26 [Speaker 1]
Should I demonstrate that?

00:43:28 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:43:29 [Speaker 2]
Oh, go for it.
00:43:30 [Speaker 2]
So you're gonna...
00:43:30 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:43:31 [Speaker 2]
Log out.

00:43:32 [Speaker 1]
So, I think

00:43:33 [Speaker 2]
some new email.

00:43:36 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:43:37 [Speaker 1]
I'll, I think I can do that.
00:43:39 [Speaker 1]
So should we talk about the team real quick before we demonstrate that?
00:43:43 [Speaker 1]
Yep.
00:43:43 [Speaker 1]
So, I'm an admin account, so I can't do this.

00:43:47 [Speaker 1]
But if you're a paid account, you go to team.
00:43:49 [Speaker 1]
And what this looks like, it just says input the the email address of the team member you wanna add.
00:43:56 [Speaker 1]
So you put in the...
00:43:58 [Speaker 1]
So, basically, this is for golf courses thinking that you want to provide this resource to your assistants or your spray techs or your, to your entire team or, you know, to the key people within your team so you can do that easily.
00:44:16 [Speaker 1]
And this has always been something that Paysturf offered, but on the old side, it was a manual thing where you had to eat...

00:44:24 [Speaker 1]
You had to write to us and request, like, can you please set up an account for this person, this person, this person?
00:44:32 [Speaker 1]
And it was just quite a hassle, enough of a hassle that I didn't really advertise that this feature was available.
00:44:41 [Speaker 1]
Now it's just built in.
00:44:43 [Speaker 1]
And so you you get this with the paid accounts so you can add your your team, and it's really seamless.
00:44:52 [Speaker 1]
Do you wanna add anything to that, Maggie?

00:44:55 [Speaker 2]
No.
00:44:56 [Speaker 2]
You can have as many team members as you want.
00:44:59 [Speaker 2]
But most people have, like, two to four that they'll add.
00:45:01 [Speaker 2]
And so they'll just receive the same emails that you do, and they will get access to the website like you do, all for the price of one membership.

00:45:09 [Speaker 1]
All for the price of one membership.
00:45:10 [Speaker 1]
The the thing is their weather location is this...
00:45:13 [Speaker 1]
You're the one who sets the weather location.
00:45:15 [Speaker 1]
So, the...
00:45:17 [Speaker 1]
So it's it's meant for one one site.

00:45:20 [Speaker 1]
So let's sign up.
00:45:22 [Speaker 1]
So it starts off by saying, let's make a email add...
00:45:27 [Speaker 1]
Let's add our email address.
00:45:28 [Speaker 1]
So I'll type Mica Woods.
00:45:38 [Speaker 1]
So I add my email address.

00:45:42 [Speaker 1]
And then let's make a password.
00:45:45 [Speaker 1]
That's gonna need to be eight characters.
00:45:51 [Speaker 1]
So my password meets all the necessary requirements.
00:45:55 [Speaker 1]
I agreed to the terms of service and privacy policy and click continue.
00:46:05 [Speaker 1]
Sure.

00:46:05 [Speaker 1]
Let's save it.
00:46:07 [Speaker 1]
So to create our account, we want to to tell us about the operation.
00:46:11 [Speaker 1]
So I'll put in my name.
00:46:16 [Speaker 1]
Let's say that I'm at a t c South.
00:46:26 [Speaker 1]
And we can choose the organization type.

00:46:29 [Speaker 1]
Let's say that I'm a sports field.
00:46:32 [Speaker 1]
We can search our location.
00:46:34 [Speaker 1]
Let's say...
00:46:36 [Speaker 1]
Let's search for...
00:46:44 [Speaker 1]
See if Bangkok glass...

00:46:48 [Speaker 1]
What's the name?
00:46:49 [Speaker 1]
I'm trying to think of a football stadium in Bangkok.
00:46:59 [Speaker 1]
When we get into...
00:47:00 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:47:00 [Speaker 1]
Let's do Impact Arena in, in Thailand.

00:47:06 [Speaker 1]
So that's...
00:47:07 [Speaker 1]
That, that's Seashore Paspalum, and I'm gonna do metric, and I'm gonna say email me occasional updates.
00:47:16 [Speaker 1]
So that's signing us up for the free, that's a...
00:47:20 [Speaker 1]
The free account.
00:47:21 [Speaker 1]
So so we're set up there for that stadium, and now we decide, we're...

00:47:27 [Speaker 1]
We've got a free account already, or we can continue and pay for a full membership where we're gonna get the weekly updates by email, the weather reports by email, the full weather page, and access to the entire archive, the free material, and all of the the member only material.
00:47:45 [Speaker 1]
But that's our free account.
00:47:47 [Speaker 1]
So so that...
00:47:49 [Speaker 1]
We've we've done that, and we've got a free account.
00:47:52 [Speaker 1]
But now if if I go...

00:47:54 [Speaker 1]
I don't continue to pay.
00:47:56 [Speaker 1]
And if I just look at at the weather page, it's gonna say that I need that for a Yeah.
00:48:02 [Speaker 1]
So so that...
00:48:03 [Speaker 1]
That's a paid service.
00:48:04 [Speaker 1]
But if I go to the gallery, the gallery is gonna work exactly right.

00:48:09 [Speaker 1]
So let's say, okay.
00:48:10 [Speaker 1]
I've got seashore pastvalum.
00:48:12 [Speaker 1]
So we've got 23 images of seashore pastvalum here.
00:48:16 [Speaker 1]
So I can look at salinity on seashore pastvalum.
00:48:18 [Speaker 1]
I can look at pastvalum leaf spot and crown rod images.

00:48:21 [Speaker 1]
I can look at large patch on pastvalum, white leaf on pastvalum, slime mold on pastvalum, brown patch, fairy ring, high salinity even even on pastvalum, salinity high enough to cause pastvalum failure.
00:48:38 [Speaker 1]
Just just all kinds of information there.
00:48:40 [Speaker 1]
So that's that's all of it available for free.
00:48:45 [Speaker 1]
And then if we look, let's just search the site for Seashore Paspalum.
00:48:56 [Speaker 1]
So if we've got, 49 results for seashore past fallum, and then it's turning up a lot of member only content.

00:49:05 [Speaker 1]
So we've got sodium content of past fallum leaves, tissue guidelines.
00:49:09 [Speaker 1]
Debate continues about seashore pastvalum.

00:49:12 [Speaker 2]
Okay.
00:49:12 [Speaker 2]
But

00:49:13 [Speaker 1]
then, so a lot of that is member only content, but, okay, here's a free item, phytotoxicity of rye removal, herbicides to seashore pastvalum.
00:49:23 [Speaker 1]
So here's here's a free item, the...
00:49:26 [Speaker 1]
A report on a replicated trial about curb and revolver, with a iron supplement, and we can get a full copy of that report.
00:49:36 [Speaker 1]
And as we mentioned earlier, we get the...
00:49:39 [Speaker 1]
Excuse me.

00:49:40 [Speaker 1]
For for every single every single, page on the site, every update page or reference page, you're gonna get related information.
00:49:52 [Speaker 1]
So now we can also get information at the bottom, which showing if you wanna click through to see sulfonylurea herbicides for improved transitions or that that seashore past fallum, or moss, chemical and cultural controls for moss and putting greens.
00:50:10 [Speaker 1]
There's just all kinds of all kinds of stuff there.
00:50:14 [Speaker 1]
So if you're interested in turf grass like we are, I think this is this is a decent, decent website and a a heck of a service for only 600 a year.

00:50:26 [Speaker 2]
Agreed.
00:50:28 [Speaker 2]
So, yeah, it's...
00:50:28 [Speaker 2]
I hope that we have demonstrated it.
00:50:30 [Speaker 2]
It's easy to use.
00:50:31 [Speaker 2]
It's easy to get started.

00:50:32 [Speaker 2]
So, you know, please go to paysurf.org and check it out.

00:50:37 [Speaker 1]
And I've, I've just found it so attract...
00:50:45 [Speaker 1]
The site the site looks good.
00:50:47 [Speaker 1]
When when I post new content there, it looks good.
00:50:50 [Speaker 1]
Well, on the old site, it wasn't easy.
00:50:53 [Speaker 1]
If I if I made something public, it wouldn't go into the member update emails.

00:50:59 [Speaker 1]
And so I had to double post its.
00:51:01 [Speaker 1]
For something to go into the member emails, the member update emails, I had to make one public version and make a duplicate, member only version.
00:51:14 [Speaker 1]
And so it was just...
00:51:15 [Speaker 1]
It wasn't easy to do that.
00:51:17 [Speaker 1]
Now every time I post something, I have the option.

00:51:21 [Speaker 1]
Do I make it public, or is this for members only?
00:51:24 [Speaker 1]
But anything that's posted within the past week goes into the update email for members.
00:51:31 [Speaker 1]
So I started to question, why do I need to post stuff on the ATC site where I had been writing a lot of content when I can make it just look so good on the pay surf site, and I can make it public if I want to.
00:51:44 [Speaker 1]
And the members are still gonna get a copy of that.
00:51:48 [Speaker 1]
So I've been posting a lot of stuff that people would have been accustomed.

00:51:54 [Speaker 1]
People who followed me for a long time, they may have thought that that's the kind of stuff that I would post on the ATC site.
00:52:01 [Speaker 1]
I'm moving a lot of that to pay serve.
00:52:04 [Speaker 1]
And then for you to see that...
00:52:09 [Speaker 1]
Because the...
00:52:10 [Speaker 1]
To get the email, you need to be a member.

00:52:12 [Speaker 1]
We don't have a email that shows all the new content or or all the new free content for for nonpaid members.
00:52:27 [Speaker 1]
We don't have that.
00:52:28 [Speaker 1]
Maybe maybe in the future, we could set something up where, people with free accounts get all the free content when it's

00:52:36 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:52:37 [Speaker 2]
We'll work on that.

00:52:38 [Speaker 1]
We'll work on that.
00:52:38 [Speaker 1]
But Yeah.
00:52:39 [Speaker 1]
So we'll work on that.
00:52:40 [Speaker 1]
But right now, what I'm work...
00:52:42 [Speaker 1]
What I'm encouraging people, even if you're not able to pay right now, this is something you have to put in the budget for next year.

00:52:48 [Speaker 1]
You're like, I want this, but I...
00:52:50 [Speaker 1]
I'm not able to spend on it right now, and you're gonna try to do that later.
00:52:55 [Speaker 1]
That's great.
00:52:55 [Speaker 1]
Please make an account at PACE turf.
00:52:58 [Speaker 1]
Please, make a free account because we're gonna start sending, a a newsletter.

00:53:06 [Speaker 1]
And my...
00:53:07 [Speaker 1]
I plan to send that...
00:53:09 [Speaker 1]
Again, the plans don't always work out exactly, but I plan to send it about five times a year.
00:53:14 [Speaker 1]
So it's not gonna be something that that that clogs your inbox, but we'll send some of the key updates from PACE turf, about five times a year and send that as a PACE turf newsletter rather than some of the newsletters that I've, traditionally been sending from ATC.
00:53:32 [Speaker 1]
And, also, yeah, that...

00:53:36 [Speaker 1]
That's a idea that hadn't occurred to me now, but we could set up a newsletter so people that have free accounts could get, an update that just has all the new free content.
00:53:48 [Speaker 1]
So if if that's how you wanna use the site, we can we can keep in touch with you that way.
00:53:53 [Speaker 1]
Because I, Yeah.
00:53:56 [Speaker 1]
I...
00:53:56 [Speaker 1]
It's a it's a nice resource, and I just like to keep adding to it.

00:54:01 [Speaker 1]
So I've added all kinds of new images.
00:54:05 [Speaker 1]
People have been...
00:54:06 [Speaker 1]
I think for somebody like me who's so well traveled and so experienced in the industry, I probably get a little bit spoiled if I know what tall fescue looks like or I know, I know what large patch looks like on Seashore Paspalum, and I don't need to always get excited about posting those pictures.
00:54:24 [Speaker 1]
But if you're new in the industry, you may not know what large patch looks like on Seashore Paspalum or you may not know what a tropical carpet grass fairway looks like.
00:54:34 [Speaker 1]
And so I I have the idea to keep, to keep adding, those type of information.

00:54:42 [Speaker 1]
Alright.
00:54:42 [Speaker 1]
We've got some comments.
00:54:43 [Speaker 1]
Andrew Anderson from, Melbourne has sent us, love the improvements.
00:54:49 [Speaker 1]
Great work.
00:54:50 [Speaker 1]
Nick Elliott says, this is exciting.

00:54:52 [Speaker 1]
Love pays turf.
00:54:53 [Speaker 1]
Hope you keep making videos.
00:54:55 [Speaker 1]
But we...
00:54:56 [Speaker 1]
Well, thank you, Nick.
00:54:57 [Speaker 1]
We certainly intend to keep making videos.

00:55:00 [Speaker 1]
I just posted one this week about firmness.
00:55:02 [Speaker 1]
We've had a lot of updates about firmness.
00:55:05 [Speaker 1]
It's it's a hot topic because

00:55:07 [Speaker 2]
I know Oh, yeah.
00:55:09 [Speaker 2]
I was gonna say firmness is, like, the topic of the fall.
00:55:13 [Speaker 2]
As you can see, there...
00:55:14 [Speaker 2]
We get...
00:55:15 [Speaker 2]
It's our third ranked query after MLSN, growth potential.

00:55:19 [Speaker 2]
Now firmness is the hot topic of of this time of the year.

00:55:23 [Speaker 1]
And and I think one of the reasons for that is turfgrass managers have...
00:55:29 [Speaker 1]
Or golf course superintendents have been focused on green speed for a long time, and I think people are...
00:55:38 [Speaker 1]
Because they've been working on that and and golf course superintendents are good at solving problems, I think a lot of people feel like I've got this kind of under control.
00:55:48 [Speaker 1]
Like, we never have things totally under control, but people feel like I know how to do green speed.
00:55:54 [Speaker 1]
I I...

00:55:56 [Speaker 1]
But the firmness is trickier.
00:55:58 [Speaker 1]
It really is pretty tricky, because the things that make a firm surface are some of the things that...
00:56:06 [Speaker 1]
Well, like green speed, the things that make a fast green, also kill grass.
00:56:12 [Speaker 1]
It's kind of the same way with firmness, but in a...
00:56:15 [Speaker 1]
There's some different things, than than a...

00:56:18 [Speaker 1]
Than the same things that you'd adjust to get green speed.
00:56:22 [Speaker 1]
But if you make the soil extremely compacted, which is essentially what you need to do to have a really firm surface, if if it gets too compacted, the grass doesn't grow.
00:56:32 [Speaker 1]
And that is, that's something that we've been studying and sharing lots of information about, whether that's in updates or, charts images.
00:56:42 [Speaker 1]
And, you can find that with a search for firmness on the pace turf website, which I like to do.
00:56:52 [Speaker 1]
Let's do firmness.

00:56:56 [Speaker 1]
And that brings up, right now, 80 results.
00:57:01 [Speaker 1]
And for every search, we show the first three results will be, page content, pages on the site, and then we show if there's images.
00:57:11 [Speaker 1]
There's 15 images about firmness, and we show that, and allow you to to go look at at those, and then we show more text content.
00:57:21 [Speaker 1]
So there's a lot of information about firmness, on on the PayServ site.
00:57:28 [Speaker 1]
Thibault in, in Switzerland now, I believe, says, let's see.

00:57:35 [Speaker 1]
How do we...
00:57:37 [Speaker 1]
I think I can share this.
00:57:39 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:57:39 [Speaker 1]
He says brilliant coding work, Maggie.
00:57:42 [Speaker 1]
The improvements to the Paysterf website are tremendous.

00:57:45 [Speaker 1]
You can really see how much thought and time you and Micah have put into it.
00:57:50 [Speaker 1]
Well, I'm glad to hear that, because we have put a lot of thought into this, and we want to make this something that is, a valuable resource for people in the turfgrass industry.
00:58:02 [Speaker 1]
And and, we're we're glad to have that kind of feedback.
00:58:07 [Speaker 1]
He says, I've been meaning to create an account for a long time.
00:58:10 [Speaker 1]
I definitely don't have any excuses now.

00:58:12 [Speaker 1]
I know, no excuses.
00:58:15 [Speaker 1]
And I noticed, Thibault, that you did not have an account.
00:58:19 [Speaker 1]
And I'm like, here's somebody in the industry who's, who's making great use of many of these technologies and techniques.
00:58:27 [Speaker 1]
And, we've we've corresponded for many years about some of the, some of the modern methods for producing high quality turfgrass surfaces that Pasteurface at the forefront of.
00:58:40 [Speaker 1]
And so I think people like Thibault, you want to have an account, definitely.

00:58:44 [Speaker 1]
So thank you.
00:58:45 [Speaker 1]
I'm I'm sure by the end of today, when I when I check who has an account, you will, you'll be on there.
00:58:54 [Speaker 1]
Yep.
00:58:55 [Speaker 1]
Feel free to jump into the chat.
00:58:57 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:58:57 [Speaker 2]
I'm checking right now.
00:58:59 [Speaker 2]
It hasn't it hasn't come through yet.
00:59:01 [Speaker 2]
But we have some new accounts made.
00:59:03 [Speaker 2]
We got some new accounts.
00:59:04 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:59:05 [Speaker 1]
That...
00:59:05 [Speaker 1]
That's that's great.
00:59:07 [Speaker 1]
So, yeah.
00:59:08 [Speaker 1]
And I I really want people to have paid accounts to have access to to everything, but there is a lot of information there.
00:59:20 [Speaker 1]
And it's it's...

00:59:23 [Speaker 1]
Even even if you don't have a paid account.
00:59:25 [Speaker 1]
I guess I will also add, I'm I'm often looking for turfgrass information.
00:59:34 [Speaker 1]
Turfgrass managers are are focused on something else, producing good turfgrass conditions.
00:59:39 [Speaker 1]
So I think people tend not to go just spend time looking at the PACE turf website studying information, but we want to make it so that information is there for you when when you do run into a problem and you need information that you can easily, find that.
00:59:58 [Speaker 1]
Well, Thibault, jumping into the chat and with those comments reminds me that I'm gonna be in Switzerland in, in a couple weeks.

01:00:07 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna be speaking at the Swiss Greenkeepers Association autumn conference on, that's being held on October six and seven.
01:00:17 [Speaker 1]
I think I'll bring up on the screen, Maggie.
01:00:19 [Speaker 1]
Let's look.
01:00:21 [Speaker 1]
So there's the firmness search.
01:00:22 [Speaker 1]
I I forgot to show that, when I was talking about it, but we get 80 results for firmness.

01:00:28 [Speaker 1]
And here's the the, the image bar that I was talking about.
01:00:33 [Speaker 1]
If we go...
01:00:34 [Speaker 1]
Well, we can just search.
01:00:35 [Speaker 1]
We can find everything on this search on on the side from search.
01:00:39 [Speaker 1]
So if we type conference, but we don't have to type we don't have to type full conference.

01:00:45 [Speaker 1]
I can just type c o n f e r, and the...
01:00:48 [Speaker 1]
There's 307 results.
01:00:51 [Speaker 1]
And the number one item is conference speaking schedule.
01:00:56 [Speaker 1]
So if we look at the conference speaking schedule, the the page showing now was last updated on September 16, and it shows on October six and seven, the Swiss Greenkeepers Association Autumn Conference.
01:01:12 [Speaker 1]
And if we click on that, we could go through to the registration page.

01:01:16 [Speaker 1]
And then it shows also, so this is not this is not a list of every turf conference in the world.
01:01:24 [Speaker 1]
This is a list of turf conferences, which Michael or Maggie will be presenting at.
01:01:32 [Speaker 1]
So, the next one is, just a couple weeks from now in, in Switzerland.
01:01:37 [Speaker 1]
So I'm I'm really looking forward to that, to speaking with turf grass managers.
01:01:42 [Speaker 1]
I I I heard from, from a couple people from outside of Switzerland who got registered and who are traveling to Switzerland just to participate in this, in October.

01:01:56 [Speaker 1]
So that's gonna be exciting.
01:01:57 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna be talking about MLSN.
01:02:00 [Speaker 1]
I'm going to be talking about clipping volume, growth rate.
01:02:05 [Speaker 1]
I'm going to be talking about o m two four six, organic matter management, and all of this is really about playability.
01:02:12 [Speaker 1]
Everything starts with the playability, and it's about how we manage the grass to have that playability at the level that we want for as many days in the year as possible.

01:02:26 [Speaker 1]
So that's that's really what we are, that's what I'm gonna be talking about.
01:02:32 [Speaker 1]
That's what I that's what I talk about every single time I give a presentation is about how to get the results you're looking for.
01:02:40 [Speaker 1]
So our conference speaking schedule has that, and I'm also going to speak for the Norwegian Green Key...
01:02:47 [Speaker 1]
Keepers Association, their education week, which they have the very wise decision of holding that education week on the coast of Spain.
01:02:58 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

01:02:58 [Speaker 1]
So I'm I'm going to Alicante, in January for that to speak with the Norwegian Greenkeepers Association for their education week.
01:03:07 [Speaker 1]
And then, let's see.
01:03:09 [Speaker 1]
After that, there's one, that we haven't added yet, but this week, we're gonna...
01:03:15 [Speaker 1]
We'll we'll get that added.
01:03:17 [Speaker 1]
Can you tell us a little bit about that, Maggie, that happens in between January 14 and January 24?

01:03:24 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
01:03:25 [Speaker 2]
So the...
01:03:25 [Speaker 2]
It's...
01:03:26 [Speaker 2]
I'll be presenting at the GCSA conference, which is gonna be in New Orleans, the end of January.
01:03:33 [Speaker 2]
So they just opened the registration in the last day or two, so we just...

01:03:36 [Speaker 2]
It's on its way.
01:03:37 [Speaker 2]
We'll get it get it up on the website here.

01:03:39 [Speaker 1]
Right.

01:03:39 [Speaker 2]
I'm gonna be presenting about building a golf course tech stack that works.
01:03:46 [Speaker 2]
So that's gonna be about...
01:03:48 [Speaker 2]
We're gonna talk about what problems are you actually trying to solve with technology and with software.
01:03:56 [Speaker 2]
We'll talk about frameworks of evaluating tech products, like looking at how much do they cost, what is the outcome, like the...
01:04:07 [Speaker 2]
Either the agronomic or the, you know, the sort of turf grass or the plain quality outcomes from it, as well as, the other lens would be revenue.

01:04:17 [Speaker 2]
So, you know, I think we think a lot about, like, how much do how much do things cost and and what do we get.
01:04:22 [Speaker 2]
I don't think we're thinking a lot about how does this drive revenue.
01:04:25 [Speaker 2]
So, we'll we'll talk a little bit about that.
01:04:28 [Speaker 2]
We'll have lots of case studies about, you know, probably some boring software products, like, think of, like, HR or payroll or something like that.
01:04:38 [Speaker 2]
That's, you know, that's a piece of software that's in your tech stack, of your golf course.

01:04:43 [Speaker 2]
But also, like, AI products, some, you know, hardware.
01:04:48 [Speaker 2]
I think too...
01:04:49 [Speaker 2]
So it...
01:04:49 [Speaker 2]
It'll be me and and one of my frequent collaborators, Jesse McClure, who's also a CTO at a...
01:04:54 [Speaker 2]
At another company.

01:04:56 [Speaker 2]
We also...
01:04:57 [Speaker 2]
We were just discussing this in the last couple weeks.
01:04:59 [Speaker 2]
We'll probably talk about, building your own products a little bit too.
01:05:03 [Speaker 2]
So what I...
01:05:03 [Speaker 2]
That's what I would call, like, local artifacts.

01:05:05 [Speaker 2]
You know, if you sit with chat g p t or or a cloud code and you you make something, we see...
01:05:09 [Speaker 2]
I've seen more and more superintendents doing this.
01:05:11 [Speaker 2]
You make something that helps you visualize your data or is, a a a small app that does something.
01:05:17 [Speaker 2]
We'll talk a little bit about those sort of local artifacts and, how to think about what to do with them, as well as a larger conversation of, like, should you build your own software, or should you buy it from other places?
01:05:31 [Speaker 2]
So I'm excited to talk about that.

01:05:32 [Speaker 2]
It's a new it's a new seminar for the conference and for us that we're putting together.
01:05:39 [Speaker 2]
And it's interesting that it's in the it's in the business track.
01:05:42 [Speaker 2]
I guess, there's a few technology talks are in the business track, not the, like, agronomic or resource management type of tracks.
01:05:49 [Speaker 2]
So I'm looking forward to it.
01:05:52 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

01:05:52 [Speaker 1]
On the building your own, I've seen a lot of people do something where they...
01:05:59 [Speaker 1]
They'll they'll build something so that they can easily input clipping volume data.
01:06:05 [Speaker 1]
Exactly.
01:06:06 [Speaker 1]
Right?
01:06:06 [Speaker 1]
So so, like, okay.

01:06:07 [Speaker 1]
You build this, so then your staff are out on the triplex.
01:06:11 [Speaker 1]
And then as soon as they finish mowing that green, they put in that they got seven liters from this green, and and it'll populate your own spreadsheets and and do all kinds of cool stuff.
01:06:21 [Speaker 1]
And, so, yeah, I I I think that's a really interesting topic, building your own tech stack, and I imagine that may sell out quickly.
01:06:31 [Speaker 1]
So, for everybody who's interested, you heard it here first.
01:06:36 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

01:06:36 [Speaker 1]
If you're going if you're going to New Orleans to the GCSA conference and if that topic interests you, be sure to get registered for that quickly so that you can secure your place.
01:06:48 [Speaker 1]
If I remember right from looking at the seminar announcement, it was that's gonna be on January 18.
01:06:54 [Speaker 1]
Is that right?
01:06:55 [Speaker 1]
Okay.
01:06:55 [Speaker 1]
On the Monday?

01:06:56 [Speaker 2]
I don't know.
01:06:56 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
01:06:57 [Speaker 2]
We'll put it we'll put it up here.

01:06:59 [Speaker 1]
Don't don't quote me on that.
01:07:00 [Speaker 1]
We'll get that updated, so you can check that out.
01:07:03 [Speaker 1]
But, so Maggie's gonna be at the GCSA conference.
01:07:08 [Speaker 1]
At at the present time, I have a lot of other stuff going on, and I think...
01:07:13 [Speaker 1]
I went to the GCSA conference for the past two years.

01:07:17 [Speaker 1]
I don't plan to be there in 2027.
01:07:20 [Speaker 1]
That there's slight chance that might change, but I think it would take a lot of, a lot of persuasion to to get me to to make another trip because I'm going to beautiful Harrogate, England in Yorkshire from January twenty four to twenty eight for the BTME and biggest continue to learn program.
01:07:43 [Speaker 1]
I'm teaching three seminars there.
01:07:45 [Speaker 1]
One of those, I'm co teaching with Chris Tridoboff, the golf course superintendent from Hazleton National Golf Club.
01:07:51 [Speaker 1]
So if you wanna hear...

01:07:52 [Speaker 1]
I I think that one has a title of something like, the scientist and the superintendent or, something like that.
01:08:01 [Speaker 1]
So we're gonna talk about things from two perspectives.
01:08:05 [Speaker 1]
We're gonna talk about the same thing.
01:08:07 [Speaker 1]
I'll talk talk about getting good...
01:08:11 [Speaker 1]
Getting great, turf grass surfaces, getting great turf grass performance, and how I would go about doing that using some of these techniques.

01:08:20 [Speaker 1]
And then Chris Tridibaugh, who's a practicing golf course superintendent, is gonna talk about how he really does it and implements it.
01:08:26 [Speaker 1]
So I think that's gonna be a very interesting presentation.
01:08:30 [Speaker 1]
And I'm talking about a couple of other things there also, which you can check the program because we've put a direct link to that so you can, make sure you get registered for that.
01:08:40 [Speaker 1]
Those seminars also often sell out.
01:08:44 [Speaker 1]
And then I'm going on February 2.

01:08:45 [Speaker 1]
I'll be in Maastricht in The Netherlands to give a keynote presentation at the European Greenkeeping Summit, which I'm very much looking forward to.
01:08:53 [Speaker 1]
And then from March fifteen to seventeen, I'll be in beautiful Pattaya, Thailand for the sustainable turfgrass management in Asia conference.
01:09:03 [Speaker 1]
So, that is my upcoming schedule and and also Maggie's, contribution to that, and we hope, that Maggie will also be speaking at some other conferences.
01:09:14 [Speaker 1]
And so, this this page, will always have our confirmed upcoming public speaking events.
01:09:28 [Speaker 1]
We have another comment here, from TJ Creamer.

01:09:32 [Speaker 1]
He says great job to both of you.
01:09:34 [Speaker 1]
He's been a PACE turf member for years, but with the new site, I now find it the first place I am searching for answers when I have turfgrass question.
01:09:42 [Speaker 1]
Thank you.
01:09:45 [Speaker 1]
I think that reminds me of awareness.
01:09:50 [Speaker 1]
I think some people just aren't aware of PACE turf, because they're busy doing the job, and maybe not, not just out there on the Internet looking for turfgrass information.

01:10:05 [Speaker 1]
So we want people to remember, if you're looking for answers to your turfgrass management challenges, it's quite likely that there's an answer for you at PACE turf.
01:10:17 [Speaker 1]
I, I have searched for so many things and found answers.
01:10:27 [Speaker 1]
I...
01:10:27 [Speaker 1]
I've told the story recently, of giving a seminar in Japan and and having a question about yellow spot and realizing that PACEURF, did some of the work to actually identify that...
01:10:39 [Speaker 1]
The cause of yellow spot, on golf course putting greens.

01:10:44 [Speaker 1]
And so I searched for information and searched specifically for images about yellow spot.
01:10:50 [Speaker 1]
Because if you say yellow spot and you're talking with somebody in a different language, it's easy to miscommunicate about what a yellow spot actually is.
01:10:58 [Speaker 1]
And I wanted to make sure we were talking about the same thing, and sure enough, we were.
01:11:03 [Speaker 1]
And we we confirmed that by looking at images.
01:11:08 [Speaker 1]
Recently, I've looked at salinity.

01:11:10 [Speaker 1]
I looked up, like, leaching volumes.
01:11:16 [Speaker 1]
How much irrigation does it take to reduce your soil salinity by a certain amount?
01:11:22 [Speaker 1]
And Pasteurf did so much research about this in collaboration with golf course superintendents who had real world salinity problems, and they're irrigating with real irrigation systems.
01:11:35 [Speaker 1]
And then this was measured, documented, and shared on the PACE turf site, and you can look up that information and find it.
01:11:42 [Speaker 1]
So, I found, research from Los Angeles Country Club done in collaboration with Bruce Williams when Bruce was the director of agronomy or director of grounds there at Los Angeles Country Club.

01:11:55 [Speaker 1]
And they found...
01:11:57 [Speaker 1]
And this actually surprised me.
01:11:59 [Speaker 1]
It was on USGA greens, but it took an inch of water to reduce the soil sodium by 17 parts per million.
01:12:08 [Speaker 1]
And and that was interesting to know, but you could add two inches of water and reduce the soil sodium.
01:12:15 [Speaker 1]
We're we're not talking about soil salinity.

01:12:17 [Speaker 1]
We're talking about the sodium specifically.
01:12:20 [Speaker 1]
You you could add two inches of water and reduce the sodium by 34 parts per million.
01:12:26 [Speaker 1]
Knowing those kind of things is useful, and, yeah, there's there's tons of that there.
01:12:32 [Speaker 1]
Do you have some items, Maggie?
01:12:35 [Speaker 1]
I know you said you made a few notes of things that you wanted to chat about.

01:12:38 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna look at my notes, now also and make sure that I've covered everything.
01:12:43 [Speaker 1]
And, also, I will mention to everybody, if you've got questions you wanna ask or comments you wanna make, go ahead and do it now because we, we've finished the organic conversation part of this talk, and we're now gonna go through our notes.
01:12:59 [Speaker 1]
And if we don't have any notes, then we're gonna wind it up.

01:13:03 [Speaker 2]
I don't have anymore.
01:13:04 [Speaker 2]
The...
01:13:04 [Speaker 2]
Well, the only...
01:13:05 [Speaker 2]
The last thing on my list was that you should expect better SEO or AEO from pay serve content.
01:13:12 [Speaker 2]
So you can go on and search on Google.

01:13:14 [Speaker 2]
You can search on chat g p t.
01:13:16 [Speaker 2]
You know, you can search elsewhere.
01:13:17 [Speaker 2]
I would expect, that the way that we have kinda cleaned up and reorganized our content is gonna become more visible, in those areas of search as well.
01:13:26 [Speaker 2]
So SEO is search engine optimization, and AEO is...
01:13:31 [Speaker 2]
It's a new term for answer engine optimization.

01:13:34 [Speaker 2]
So that's like when you talk to Chad GPT or Claude and you ask questions and it searches the web, PACE turf resources will be pulled in.
01:13:43 [Speaker 2]
That would be improving our AEO.

01:13:46 [Speaker 1]
Well, the...
01:13:46 [Speaker 1]
And that reminds me, the way that the site is built now is by Internet best practices, and that means that some of the things like automatic translation work amazingly well.
01:14:06 [Speaker 1]
So this this is is related to that.
01:14:09 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna change to, and just demonstrate this.
01:14:15 [Speaker 1]
So I'm...

01:14:20 [Speaker 1]
Wait.
01:14:22 [Speaker 1]
Now this is where I'm using my non...
01:14:27 [Speaker 1]
This browser.
01:14:32 [Speaker 1]
Maggie, I'm using a browser that I don't know how to to do the auto translate.
01:14:37 [Speaker 1]
Could you do a share screen if possible and see if you could, like, take the conference speaking schedule page or the home page and translate it into a foreign language?

01:14:48 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
01:14:48 [Speaker 2]
Wow.
01:14:49 [Speaker 2]
One moment here.
01:14:50 [Speaker 2]
I'm gonna do it on the dev site.
01:14:53 [Speaker 2]
Okay.

01:14:55 [Speaker 2]
So I wanna do a tab.
01:14:59 [Speaker 2]
Okay.
01:15:01 [Speaker 2]
So I just...
01:15:01 [Speaker 2]
I'm using Chrome as my browser.
01:15:03 [Speaker 2]
So I just right click and there's a translate button.

01:15:06 [Speaker 2]
So I'm gonna translate to...
01:15:11 [Speaker 2]
Let's do Japanese.

01:15:13 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
01:15:14 [Speaker 1]
Let's let's cycle through all kinds of font languages.
01:15:17 [Speaker 1]
But let's start with Japanese.

01:15:20 [Speaker 2]
Okay.
01:15:21 [Speaker 2]
Here.
01:15:21 [Speaker 2]
I'm doing...
01:15:22 [Speaker 2]
There's Japanese.

01:15:24 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
01:15:25 [Speaker 1]
So...
01:15:25 [Speaker 1]
And it...
01:15:26 [Speaker 1]
So it's doing auto translate.
01:15:28 [Speaker 1]
So automatic translation, which I have to use a lot because of my international work and me not being, multilinguistic.

01:15:40 [Speaker 1]
I I often have to do this to try to communicate, and automatic translation has gotten much better over the years.
01:15:49 [Speaker 1]
And the fact that this just out of the box, we can we can make it display like this?

01:15:59 [Speaker 2]
There's French.
01:16:00 [Speaker 2]
Oh, bonjour.

01:16:04 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
01:16:05 [Speaker 1]
So European languages tend to translate really well.
01:16:09 [Speaker 1]
I will...
01:16:09 [Speaker 1]
I I mean, everybody knows that, I think.
01:16:11 [Speaker 1]
But the,

01:16:12 [Speaker 2]
I do Spanish.
01:16:13 [Speaker 2]
Let's see Spanish here.
01:16:21 [Speaker 2]
There.
01:16:21 [Speaker 2]
Okay.
01:16:22 [Speaker 2]
Your Spanish.

01:16:27 [Speaker 1]
And and so...
01:16:28 [Speaker 1]
And it's not just the home page.
01:16:30 [Speaker 1]
So if you go to, how about the par update that I did, like, three days ago?

01:16:37 [Speaker 2]
Nope.
01:16:37 [Speaker 2]
Wrong way.
01:16:38 [Speaker 2]
Oh, I thought it snapped back here.
01:16:40 [Speaker 2]
Let me

01:16:41 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
01:16:41 [Speaker 1]
So Here's the If we look at this and put this in in, Espanol

01:16:49 [Speaker 2]
there.
01:16:51 [Speaker 2]
There we go.

01:16:52 [Speaker 1]
And so then if you go down and scroll through that, the entire thing has been, displayed in.
01:17:01 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
01:17:03 [Speaker 1]
And then the related content is probably gonna show in Spanish, the see also.

01:17:08 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

01:17:10 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
01:17:11 [Speaker 1]
So it's it's pretty pretty cool.
01:17:13 [Speaker 1]
I mean, I think most people are going to be viewing this in English, but it the the way that the site is now with good SEO, good, much improved AEO, and also it just works with the modern Internet.
01:17:33 [Speaker 1]
And I think that...
01:17:35 [Speaker 1]
That's really cool because you can do this on your phone.

01:17:38 [Speaker 1]
So you could even be, if you're if you're out talking to staff members, you can translate this into a lot of languages.
01:17:47 [Speaker 1]
And, yeah, it's cool.
01:17:51 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
01:17:51 [Speaker 1]
Alright.
01:17:52 [Speaker 1]
Any more any more questions or comments for us before we before we wind this up?

01:18:07 [Speaker 1]
Anything else from you, Maggie?

01:18:10 [Speaker 2]
No.
01:18:10 [Speaker 2]
Thanks, everybody.

01:18:12 [Speaker 1]
Alright.
01:18:13 [Speaker 1]
Thank you, Maggie, for joining us.
01:18:15 [Speaker 1]
Congratulations on, or thank you and congratulations on the success of...
01:18:19 [Speaker 1]
On on doing this work.
01:18:21 [Speaker 1]
It it really is impressive, and it's great to have that feedback from people.

01:18:26 [Speaker 1]
And, we we are gonna keep working on this and keep making it better.
01:18:32 [Speaker 1]
I'm I'm not talking so much about what my vision is of, of all of the cool things that we can do because they don't exist yet.
01:18:43 [Speaker 1]
But it it is exciting to think about those, and and we're actively working on things that aren't live yet that we're not, and they may not go live, but we're working on things trying to make it better.

01:18:58 [Speaker 2]
I feel like we are just getting started.
01:19:00 [Speaker 2]
I feel like we are just getting started.
01:19:02 [Speaker 2]
So, yeah, more to come.

01:19:03 [Speaker 1]
That...
01:19:04 [Speaker 1]
That's that's how we feel, and that's Yeah.
01:19:06 [Speaker 1]
And I think some of that excitement, comes through, when you hear us talking about this.
01:19:11 [Speaker 1]
And Yeah.
01:19:12 [Speaker 1]
I'll just say that, you know, something that we do try to do with PACE turf is, provide solutions where where we recognize that turf grass managers are very busy, and we don't want PACE turf to be a platform where you have to do a lot of work.

01:19:29 [Speaker 1]
We just want it to be tools and resources that are available for you.
01:19:33 [Speaker 1]
We send you information, without you having to do too much work.
01:19:38 [Speaker 1]
So the things that we're trying to develop are based on that, to provide valuable, useful tools, without without putting too much of a burden of, like, oh, no.
01:19:51 [Speaker 1]
This is another subscription.
01:19:53 [Speaker 1]
This is another platform.

01:19:55 [Speaker 1]
Now I have to put my information in here.
01:19:57 [Speaker 1]
We...
01:19:58 [Speaker 1]
We're not really asking you to do that.
01:20:00 [Speaker 1]
And we're we're thinking about how to do that, how to build tools where you you just kind of marvel at how well it works.
01:20:09 [Speaker 1]
That's...

01:20:10 [Speaker 1]
And how useful it is.
01:20:11 [Speaker 1]
That's that's what we want it to be.
01:20:15 [Speaker 1]
Alright.
01:20:15 [Speaker 1]
Well, thanks everyone.
01:20:17 [Speaker 1]
Thanks for joining us.

01:20:18 [Speaker 1]
We will sign off now.
01:20:20 [Speaker 1]
And for people who didn't watch it live or if somebody wants to...
01:20:23 [Speaker 1]
If you only caught part of this and want to to watch it or listen to it again, we will make that possible for you by putting this on the office hours podcast, probably later...
01:20:36 [Speaker 1]
Well, as soon as as soon as we're done recording.
01:20:39 [Speaker 1]
So, anyway, thank you, Maggie.

01:20:41 [Speaker 1]
Thanks, everyone.

01:20:43 [Speaker 2]
See you.

01:20:44 [Speaker 1]
Alright.
01:20:44 [Speaker 1]
Bye bye.
